Pippa has worked with miners in Bolivia for the last four years, trying to raise standards and control the enviromental impact mines have. The gold is extracted without the use of cyanide and the mine in the Yungas will eventually reach Fair-trade status. This will mean the gold can be sold at a premium and the additional money can be put back into the community to help in health and educational projects, as well as improve the safety of the mines.
